Wood

Wood sculptures that go together

The assignment was to create 3 wooden sculptures of something like 80% or more of pure wood. All items had to go together and flow together, AKA be made for each other.

Drat, "What to do, what to do?" thought I. The last time I tried to do something with wood I overshot it and never finished it. "So what now" went over and over in my head as I sat there looking at my last wooden project. Since it has a face burned into it the project stared back at me knowing.

Toys! I can always make something thing that my kids will love.  So that is what I made for them: 3 weapons, 3 signs and 3 smaller items to go into one toybox. This one here went 100 precent to the children as does all things I tend to create as of late.

It started with a handsaw, wire brush grinder and cut down cedar branches attacked by carpenter ants.

The cut branches were turned into a sword, a katana and an instrument per the children's request.

In this and the previous image the played with the shaved items to figure hand placement.

I decided to keep the carpenter ant tunnels as a natural design element.

The overall process including the toy box, game, weapons, signs and vehicles took about 3 weeks or 25+ known working hours.

A toy holder made from woodshop findings and 2 nail polish painted end table scraps started in 2023 by my youngest and I.

Our eldest daughter wanted theater signs so she could tell others how to respond to her plays.

Here we have a ring toss game, a ship dubbed the S.S. Design, and a tank for my youngest son.
