Light & Sound

This area was our groups design concept inspiration for both the final image and original color scheme, Mr. Hector Garcia.

Light & Sound

I would say that this was one of the harder projects I have done but this is also one of the first graded projects I have had to do with more than two people in a very long (like decades) time. Our goal was to take this iconic man and turn him into a saint like rendition of stained glass. Working solely with how the glass design would interact with both natural and faux lighting scenarios.

We started with the idea of stained glass look and the went over possible memorable places, people or symbols specific to Texas A&M Corpus Christi. From there we combined image ideas and Josiah made our design come to life. Then we went around campus snapping photos using Adobe Capture to create color pallets. There were several changes that happened along the way but thankfully our group was able to navigate it in a successful manner.

Given the chance I would do this project all over again using the knowledge that was garnered from this run. I believe that my partners and I could adjust the ink used to make it a bit more transparent without losing too much of the pigment in order to allow more light to come trough.

Layer one done by Josiah in screenprint, who also taught me how to properly use and CLEAN the station while doing so.

This photo is after the first 2 layers of images and 3 layers of ink were placed. In total there are 2 layers of imagery, 3 layers of ink screen printed, 4 colors hand painted and 10 layers of clear protective coating that went into this work. Oh, plus lighting.

The final product with interior lighting on the front from the Weil Gallery and natural 2PM sunlight from behind. In the end we wound up adding a spotlight behind to place emphasis on the circular wording to create a halo like illusion.
